Greetings from FNSt South

Two Anniversaries for FNF in 2008!

Welcome to the first edition of our eNewsletter in 2008.
This year is a special year for FNF in general – and for the India Office in particular. Fifty years ago, the first President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Theodor Heuss, and other liberals founded the Friedrich-Naumann-Stiftung in Bonn, and 40 years ago FNF started with its project work in India with a seminar on entrepreneurial social responsibility. The Foundation cooperated with the "Leslie Sawhny Programme" – its first partner organization in India. Both anniversaries will be celebrated in due form. On May 18, a festive event, in the presence of the German President Horst Köhler, will take place in Bonn, to be followed by a high-level international conference in Berlin on "Masterplan 2050: Strategies for a Free World" on May 21 and 22. In India we will host a Liberal Convention on September 27 in Delhi. Among others, IFAN gave us some valuable suggestions on the concept of this event during its annual meeting in Mumbai this April. Have a look what else happened since the beginning of 2008!

FreedomGaters from Pakistan make their way to corridors of power
The Friedrich-Naumann-Stiftung für die Freiheit does not change its policy on Tibet. This was decided unanimously by the Board of Trustees of the Foundation, chaired by Dr. Jürgen Morlok. At the same time reports are refuted which claim that the Foundation would have steered Anti-China protests through the "5th International Tibet Support Groups Conference" from May 11-14, 2007 in Brussels, which had been co-organised by the Foundation. Among others the Chinese news agency Xinhua has been spreading such insinuations.

  50th

When committed liberals and Federal President Theodor Heuss met fifty years ago at the Villa Hammerschmidt in Bonn on May 19, 1958 to found the Friedrich Naumann Foundation they acted in the precise style of a vibrant democracy: they showed civic involvement. Were those founders still among us today they would be proud of what they began then.

  The Essential Frédéric Bastiat

This publication is a collection of essays by Bastiat himself which have been presented in a simple style for the benefit of the readers. The essays are a treat in simplicity and clarity and offer a striking contrast to the writings of his contemporary Karl Marx as well as to the techno-economic expositions of modern-day economists.
